Those Who Cling to Religion & Guns Rejoice...Speedweek has officially Started

I am back in my element once again...Stationed in front of the 46 inch HDTV watching the NASCAR Budweiser Shootout!  Speedweek at Daytona Speedway has officially begun thus launching the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup season!

As usual, I am pulling for my boy Jeff Gordon to win, but it's not looking so good with 6 laps to go.  He's currently in 5th with 5 to go now.

Actually, I root for any one of the Hendrick drivers to win along with anyone that drives for Stewart/Haas Racing because they run their cars with....Hendrick motors of course!

2 laps to go and Ryan Newman is leading....

White flag is out and Jeffy boy has fallen to 7th...

Newman still leading and comes around but now it looks like Denny Hamlin and won the shootout!

Nix that, looks like they're giving the race to the number 22 Penzoil  car of Kurt Busch due to Denny Hamlin making the pass below the yellow line!

I can't wait to see the 53rd running of the Daytona 500!  Hopefully with the resurfacing of the track, there won't be the long race delay like last year due to a hole in the track.

Congratulations to Kurt Busch on his winning the 2011 NASCAR Budweiser Shootout!

Let's Go Fishing

My wife and I just moved to Vernon, Connecticut this winter from Grand Rapids, Michigan.  After all the snow we've gotten here and the intense cold temps, I've found my mind wandering and I've been doing a lot of daydreaming about going fishing.

I've done the charter cruise thing on the Brooklyn out of Sheepshead Bay, NY several times for Blues, and I've had much success when I visit my inlaws in Belle Harbor.  But now that I'm an east coaster, or shall I say, a New Englander, I need to find some stomping grounds around here to fish.

I'm interested in the lake and rivers, as well as the surf and pier fishing around the coastal region of the state.  Anyone know some hot spots?  Let me know your thoughts and ideas on this.  Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

Let's go fishing!!!

That's me with a King Salmon caught from Michigan's Pere Marquette River in Walhalla, Michigan.  Caught it on a 11.5 foot ultra light noodle rod with 6 lb test line with a streamer fly consisting of Lavender, White, and Red Bucktail and the hook dressed with pearl mylar tinsel.  My own creation based on a larger version of a fly used extensively in Alaska introduced to my by an old friend who was a US Army Chopper Pilot now retired.  I shrank it down and made an ultralight version of the fly.

My Favorite Season of All

On Sunday February 20, 2011 43 drivers will be rolling their Detroit Iron onto the resurfaced track for the 53rd running of the granddaddy of all stock car races......The Daytona 500!  This will be the beginning of the 2011 Sprint Cup Series amidst many changes in the points format, track, and the fueling system, I'm looking forward to another exciting year of NASCAR racing!

I'm hoping most of all that #24 Driver for Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon can turn his winless slump around this year and put some more wins and perhaps one more championship under his and Rick Hendrick's belt.

Having just moved to Vernon, Connecticut I'm currently seeking out a race track to hang out at on Saturday nights this coming summer...Have found a couple of what appears to be nice tracks running multiple classes of stock car racing...This Hillbilly Hebrew needs his speed fix this summer after being so freaking busy last summer with my youngest son graduating from High School, my granddaughter being born, my wife completing grad school, and my oldest son being deployed to Afghanistan, I had absolutely no time to go to the track last summer.  I'm planning on fixing that problem this year along with planting my ass along a river bank somewhere with a rod in one hand and a cold Becks NA in the other!

Packers Win The Super Bowl

Would like to take a moment to congratulate the Green Bay Packers on their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in last nights NFL Super Bowl XLV.

 From JSOnline:

Arlington, Texas — If these Green Bay Packers aren't the most deserving champions of the Super Bowl era, they're not far from it.
At the moment of truth Sunday night in Super Bowl XLV, the Packers overcame the first-half departures of Charles Woodson and Donald Driver to vanquish the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-25, at Cowboys Stadium.
"It's how our season has been since Day 1," linebacker Desmond Bishop said. "We don't blink. We know somehow, some way, somebody will make a play."
Everything that made the Packers the startling success story that they became was evident against the Steelers.
Aaron Rodgers, the most valuable player, was magnificent. Just when the Packers' chances were starting to become bleak deep in the second half, his powerful arm and remarkable accuracy kept the team afloat.
.Despite five second-half drops, the Packers' wide receivers also made play after play against Pittsburgh's proud but overmatched secondary. Jordy Nelson had a career performance with nine catches for 140 yards

I watched the game from beginning to end...I thought it was a great game and despite the many negative reactions to the Half Time Show, I enjoyed the performance by the Black Eyed Peas and the surprise appearance by former GnR Lead Guitar Player, Slash!

Star Spangled Fail

During the opening moments of the Super Bowl, Christina Aguilera fumbled the words of the National Anthem.

From Billboard.Com

Aguilera changed the words in the song's fourth line, which reads as: "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?" Instead, the "Burlesque" singer merged the lyrics with the song's second line, which she had just sang ("What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?"), belting out: "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming?"

Additionally, Aguilera's voice strained to hit the final note of the song, penned by Francis Scott Key.
I have a problem with how she sung it! WTF? She just did too much with her strained vocals. I was like, JUST SING THE DAMN SONG ALREADY! That was pretty disrespectful. I mean, it';s one thing to put a little bit of yourself into the song when singing it, but to damn near recreate the whole melody is unacceptable!
